If it's "a penny for your thoughts", why do some people put thier "two cents in"?

Have you ever notice some people go on and on and on (and on) with their answers. I have a short attention span and I just want 3 short paragraphs at the most for an answer.

It's offering a 'rebate' to the person who has to give their 2cents. You get one of those pennies back

Well, a penny is just not worth a penny anymore...I would say two cents would be better today..inflation, you know...

It's the law of supply and demand. More people offer advice than want it. In a true free-market economy the two-centers would be out of business. Unfortunately they are being underwritten by the "talk is cheap" lobby. What other explanation could there be?

"A penny for your thoughts" is just a figure of speech. It's another way of asking someone what they think. It has nothing to do with how much their ideas are worth.

I tend to adjust for inflation and other factors, so mine is usually $1.87 worth.
