Can I sprinkle lime in my flower beds to keep the insects off that are eating them?

I was always told to use lime in a vegetable garden to keep the insects off of them. I have recently discovered these insects eating the leaves in my flower bed and was wondering if it would be alright to use lime in there or will I kill my flowers. I don't know what these insects are; I've never seen them before and can't find them on the internet.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Thanks for your input. I will definitely check it out. The reason why I asked about Lime is cuz I have some in a container in my shed that I used to use it on my vegetable garden that a local farmer gave to me.

By the way, I found out it is a Four-lined Plant Bug.
