He was one of the most important French poets ever. He was born in 1854 and dien in 1891. When he was about 17, he sent a few of his poems to another brilliant poet, Paul Verlaine, ten years his senior and married, who invited him to Paris after reading his poems. They had a stormy and passionate love affaire, Verlaine abandoned his wife and child because of Rimbaud. They travelled together to Belgium and England and their relationship influenced the works of both of them. They separated in 1873, when Verlaine shot Rimbaud in the wrist and was sentenced to two years in prison. While Verlaine was in jail, Rimbaud completed his probably most famous work called "Une saison en enfer" (A Season in Hell) and "Les Illuminations". Then he gave up writing completely and travelled in Europe and Africa. All of his poems were written between his 15th and 20th year.
