Why do most artists lead a promiscuous and problematic life?

Like Paul Verlaine, Arthur Rimbaud, Picasso, Guy de Maupassant, Victor Hugo...
Many of them died of syphilis.

It may be true that some famous artists lead "promiscuous and problematic" lives, but saying that *most* do so is probably quite a stretch.

b/c art is mostly about emotion, and sex/love is an easy path to strong emotions.

One reason is that artists sometimes actually decide to not care about anything other than their art. So that means that even morals go out the window.

Perhaps those who do live that way are the ones who cannot handle the fame, become a bit out of touch with reality, let the ego get to their heads and believe they are invincible/immune to consequences that affect us ordinary folks, like STDs.

Plus they may just have more time on their hands to lead that sort of life and create those dramas as they're not bound to a 9-5 job or have a family to tend do.

Their problems were in freeing their Spirit and their Muse, the rest were symptoms we run to because we are human and know no better. Great Artists are difficult at best. Brilliance can be a curse, while the rest of us are blessed by it.
