Newsweek reports that the divorce rate for pastors is over 50% equal to that of the secular world?

Why aren't other people alarmed that the divorce rate for pastors is 50%?
These are people preaching from the pulpit every Sunday about morals....

Telling you and I how we should live our lives.

People look to them for inspiration/direction

Doesn't this make them a hypocrite?

Sure I sin, but I do not stand in front of a bunch of people pounding my fist on the pulpit and telling everyone else what sinners they are.

There is such a double standard among fundamentalists...pick on the gays because they are fewer in numbers...but, oh no stay away from preaching about divorce because it affects too many....

I think pastors and churches are just afraid of losing the divorced people's monetary contribution to the church...so, they look the other way on this sin....

So, why don't you see this as a threat to the sanctity of marriage?

Strong, thought-provoking question with excellent supporting examples. I don't see why fundamentalists think they must defend marriage from gay people considering that the divorce rate is already over 50%--how will gay marriages damage the "sanctity" of marriage more than heterosexuals. Also, as one who is married, I've never felt the love my wife and I have for one another threatened by gay marriage.

I look forward to seeing the squirming responses that will inevitably follow this question. Thanks for the post!

I think that Satan is going to particularly attack pastors, so that is going to contribute to the high divorce rate. Plus, pastoring is stressful.

This is alarming, and it makes us realize that we are not to just follow our church leaders and teachings, we need to follow Jesus. It also shows that the number of churches that aren afraid to share the Truth, the Whole Truth, and nothing but the Truth.

divorce isn't a moral issue..it's a human issue...God divorced Israel..it happens...move on and deal with it....pastors are sinners too! they ain't perfect....

Sanctity of marriage. What a joke. Marriage is sacred. Who said so? We did. It's made up. We made up marriage and it's sanctity. Therefore, we get to make the rules. If we want to let pastors divorce that's fine, but good dam we are not going to let those gays get married. What a neat deal huh. All of Christianity is like that. We can choose to follow the parts we want and cast away the rest, right down to murder.

It's too bad the flock burdens pastor's with all their problems ...but who is there to lift up the pastor's. If a pastor's marriage breaks up...they usually step down from a position of authority. Everyone makes mistakes and the bible says do not judge or u shall be judged.

The Murder rate is so high now they cant even pinpoint a city where its the highest. Seems to me the sin level in the world has just about peaked.

thats because pastors run the church ike a business...its all about how many members they have...and not about how many true believers they have...greed has found itself in the church..and the pastors give you light weight watered down messages that have little to no effect..gods word wasz meant to be convicting, sharper than any two-edged sword..these pastors are building monuments to themselves instead of for god...if u had a child was in the first grade for ten years wouldnt u say...he was either slow or retarded, because at some point u should move on and graduate...so how can u have people sittin under the same pastor for 10 years and never moving on or graduating..God said to go out then and spread the word and to repent from ur sins...but because they dont read they do not know..so therefore, they thesleves are saying one thing and doing another..thus god says study to show urself appoval...
