absolutely the commanding officer is the one to ask or if not try the sgt.major or even the serge.nt himself or better yet ask your best buddy he will know
The unit patch will go on the left sleeve at the top
and the rank insignia will go below the unit patch
halfway between the unit patch and the elbow.
The medals will go above the left pocket. Your 1st Sgt or Platoon Sgt can help you on this. It would be better to take the uniform to a tailor on post and have them sew the patch and rank insignia on,
because they are well versed on where they go and all that. Good Luck!!
Unit patches and rank... Take your Class A's to the cleaners, they'll take car eof that for you....
As far as the ribbons, they go 1/8" above the left breast pocket.
Just go to Clothing and Sales and buy one of those little books about ribbons and placement on uniforms... Also buy one of the little rulers to measuer the stuff... They have everything you need there...
Some cleaners will do it all for you, but it costs extra...
Go to your Supply Sergeant and get a copy of the chart for Army uniforms, and ask to borrow a copy of AR 670-1. Or go to the PX and in the section with all the ribbons and stuff they have little hand books to help you. But you should not have too much there to worry about.
Seems like you have received plenty of sound advice here, but I am amazed that someone right out of basic has to ask a quesiton like this on a internett forum, was there no wall charts or Regulation manuals available during your training and surely someone just out of basic can not have that much to put on a Uniform (even for an American haha just kidding guys dont bite my head of !)
If you just got out of basic, you should know where it goes, they just taught it to you. Download Adobe Acrobat (free Download) and then download Army Regulation 670-1 from the Google search. It will tell you everything that you need to know.
