I made the mistake of not having a doctor check to see why I had varying bouts of red blood in my stools, occasionally switching to black tarry stools. There were occasions where I had pain but no blood and saw a doctor about the pain. Since there was no blood, he diagnosed me with a spastic colon and did not do further tests.
It wasn't until I was seeing a GI doctor for reflux and had both the pain and the black stools that I happened to see the doctor at the right time.
He did a lower GI, found ulcers in my colon and mean inflamed walls, and was then able to accurately diagnose Crohn's Disease.
Since Crohn's Disease varies in severity according to who knows what, there were times when I saw a doctor but did not have the full symptoms, so both the diagnosis and treatment was missed.
Once diagnosed, treatment made a huge difference in my life. And since Crohn's can lead to colon cancer in some, it is a good idea to get it treated and monitored.
So, because there are numerous reasons that there can be blood in the colon, and some are risky, it's just nice to get it diagnosed when the doctor has enough evidence to tell what it is...usually while there is blood. Thus, don't "wait and see" until the symptoms are gone. Go in now.

Anytime there is blood in your stool, you need to see a doctor right away.

There are many different reasons why it may be happening. Some not so serious reasons, and some serious reasons.

Get an appointment with your doc.

Theres quiet a few reasons, blood could be from a fistula towards the end of the rectum or even roids. Muscus is a sign of an infection, as well as possible bile build up. Food poison can cause those but it would be only temporary a week tops. if it lasts longer then that go to a gastroenterologist, and he'll send a camera crew up your ***. Thats the only way they can see whats going on inside of you unfortunately.

Blood in the stool is usually caused by one of three things with the latter being most likely.... cancer, Crohn's Disease and E. Coli . Always see a doctor about blood in the stool. If it's E. Coli it will go away by itself in 3-6 weeks and although a doctor generally doesn't prescribe antibiotics for it, you should see one anyway.

It could be caused by food poisioning. It could also be caused by many other things as well. All need to be seen & treated by a Dr.. if they persist. There are usually other symptoms that accompany food posioning such as abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, etc.. The symptoms of food poisioning are dependant on the type of pathogen that is causing the prob. Hope you feel better. Go get checked out. Also you need to stay hydrated in the meantime. Alternate water and gatorade till you see a Dr.

The two most common are colitis and gastrointestinal bacterial infection. But if you're looking for a diagnosis, please don't. If you are experiencing this, please seek a diagnosis from your doctor.
