How do you keep crows/black birds away from your birdfeeder??

What is a good way to keep crows/black birds away from the birdfeeder. They seem to chase all the other colorful birds away.

Ok, I know this sounds horrible, but it works -- even with grackles and starlings:

Get a BB gun or pellet gun and shoot one and hang it up by its feet somewhere in your yard as close as you can to the bird feeder for a few days. It works. Can't explain why, but it does.

My Dad who taught me all I know about critters, landscaping, and gardening. He could actually whistle down chickadees in our back yard and they would sit on his fingers. He knew the right diameter of hole for every birdhouse so that the house would attract particular species of birds. He taught me this trick about getting rid of grackles/crows/starlings.

Feed them from a birdfeeder that is designed to keep them out. There are lots of them on the market. Some are tube feeders with wire cages around them. Some have a bar or perch that closes down the food source when the bird lands Most regular tube feeders will keep out crows, but not the smaller blackbirds. Another design that works well has a low roof that only the really small birds can get under. Three of my favorites are listed below. I used to own a bird feeding store.
