Can I drink alcohol if I'm taking azithromycin?

yes you can, however, I think what you are asking is if there are side effects. anytime you drink alcohol, it gets metabolized by the liver. many meds also get metabolized by the liver- thus deactivating them(sort of), and eliminating them. When you drink alcohol, you can decrease the speed at which meds are metabolized- thus leaving the med in your system longer than its intended span- i.e. side effect. However, studies are inconclusive for azithromycin. If it were my family member, I would recommend not drinking at the same time of the antibiotic.
