Stop talking to doctors!!! Have you talked to the teachers??? They see your kid more than any doctor, talk to them, and see what they think would be most appropriate for your child. Beware of over medicating and over diagnosing. You don't want to do real damage, and I seriously believe that somebody has be throwing around some flakey theories as to what's wrong with your kid. Just use common sense, what are the odds that he's really this ill? How is that possible, does he genuinely seem ill, or is he just a normal kid who likes to run around? Think about it rationally, and talk to your kid and his teachers. They'll have more to offer you than any doctor, I promise.

public education is a constitutional right for all children. Your public school system should be paying for your son's special needs. Find out the location of your district's special education department and they should help you and provide another parent advocate who will help you understand the options you and your son have. good luck

Your question doesn't make a lot of sense. Are you claiming your son developed lyme disease and meningitus because he has ADHD? That's not possible. You say the school put him in a smaller classroom, but then you say he needs a smaller classroom. Also, there is no need to pay to send him to school. I f your son has a learning disability, the law requires that he receive a good education in public schools. This is accomplished through an Individualized Educational Plan which is developed when your son is identified as having special educational needs. This would have happened by now if he has the problems you describe. If it has not happened, meet with the school principal and find out why. You may be asked to take a form to his physician and you may be asked to fill out some forms. Being a single mom with little income has no bearing on this. But you will need to take some steps yourself. Pick up the phone, go to the school, ask questions. Take charge of this.

The issue here is bigger than whether or not the school will but him into a smaller class. You need to have him tested OUT side of the Department of education for where you live. You need to have him tested by a psychologist that deals with childlren with learning disablities. Either go or call the nearest hospital that has a mental health center, They should have someone who tests children. After you have your son tested and the test will prove what education level he's on and what he'll be able to do. After you get that THAN you go back to the school system and Bring letters from everyone who works with your son. Pediatrition, Neruologist, speech therapist, Physcial therapist, occupational therapist any and all of these doctors or professionals saying that your son needs classes that are small and with children on is own congitive level. That means that if he still has a normal IQ you don't want him in classes with chidren with developmental disablities, If becasue of the brain damage he can't manage "normal classes" than get all of the professionals to say this, You don't say where you live. Becasue your child has a disablitiy they have to provide a education for you child, What most people don't understand is that it doesn't have to be in the public school system. There are schools for children with disablities, outside of the school system, BUT paid for by the school system. The point that you have to prove is that the school system isn't able to educate your child the way that he needs to learn. I know what I'm talking about becasue I have children with disablities, and I live in the biggest school system in the country NYC. I was able to prove that my youngest child couldn't learn the way that she needed to in the system the way it's set up in NY. When my daughter entered the seventh grade I was able to get her into a school for the learning disabilites and now that she in high school she's getting 90 and above averages. If you need help then email me Karuffins@yahoo.com One of the jobs that I have is helping children with learning disablities. I will help you any way that I can. I am also a single mother and know how fustrating it can be trying to fight the system by your self. The other really important thing to do is consult with another parent who has a child in special education, you might need someone to help you deal with the system where you live. The other thing that you must know is that you have a RIGHT to have any one you want at the IEP conference in fact the Dept. of education where you live is supposed to make sure that there is another parent there to help you understand the confence and what they want to offer your child. You also have to do your reseach and to find out what they will offer your child, so that you can prove that what they want to do isn't going to help your child. In this instance you have to be the one to prove that what they are offering isn't adaquate for your child. The federal Law that covers children with disablities states that your child has to be provided with a ADAQUATE education, You're the one that has to prove what they want to offer isn't adaquate and that means that you have to know what they will give you and to have a plan to counter act that. The site that I listed on the bottom will give you a lot of information and will let you know what the school system HAS to provide.
