How can I get rid of the Bore (Boor) Bees in my wooden deck??

Question

As I type this, I am watching this HUGE bee bore its way into my deck. I've tried using RAID "flying insect" spray - but they seem to shake it off as if it were just water. What can I do?

I use Thompsons water seal or waterproofer. It protects your deck, and the wood borers don't like the stuff at all. I am assuming you have pressure treated lumber on your deck, if not you definately need something to protect it anyway. I have not had any problems with this since I started treating my wood deck with this.

take duct tape pape it up each time this drives the bees crazy

Its a carpenter bee.
Sevin dust works okay.
Better yet- just use a fly swatter.

Well, we are lucky enough to have a female nesting in my soffitt! We wait until the male bees are hovering near the entrance to the nest - they sort of move slowly just about then..and we catch them with a butterfly net and stomp the living you knwo what outta them! We use wasp stuff on the bees......Good luck, and treat that wood! They love it untreated! (our problem too!!!)

The male bees lurk around where the females are boring into the wood to lay nore eggs. Generally a wasted effort to swat the males. Hardware stores have products good for control, consult their book on insect pests. Treat all unteated wood with an oil based stain, & or any paint is good. Plug holes after pushing a wire into hole, kills bee if inside, then plug with a slightly oversized 3/8 inch dowel plug, 1 inch long is good.
