What can cephalexin 500 mg be used for other than yeast infections?

Cephalexin, also called Keflex is in a class of antibiotics called cephalosprins. They are used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections such as pneumonia, skin infections, ear infections, urinary tract infections, bone and joint infections and septicemia.
It is given it in the hospital a lot to prevent / heal infections after surgery. If your friend is allergic to Penicillin he/she may want to take it with caution as some people allergic to Penicillin are also allergic to this class of meds. Also, not to sound like a nag, but if your friend has an infection, and is thinking about taking left over medications, she may just end up making the infection harder to heal by not taking the proper dose or not taking them for the right duration of time. This can create bacterial infections that are immune to many of today's antibiotics. These "super infections" can require a lengthy and expensive hospital stay with IV antibiotics.

I just had a wicked burn on my leg and my doctor prescribed it to keep it from infecting.

Also, my daughter has taken it for tooth abscesses .

first of all it wont do a thing for a yeast infection, if anything it would make a yeast infection worse (she's probably using it for bacterial vaginosis not yeast). it can be used for a wide variety of bacterial infections though

it's usually used to treat infections of the skin but yeast infections aren't a bacteria but a fungal issue and keflex actually can cause a yeast infection. I was on cephalexin for 3 weeks because of a bacterial skin thing and ended up with a yeast infection because it also killed the good bacteria that kept the normal yeast population (yes everyone has yeast) at bay.
