Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed?

And 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the President. What are we so unhappy about? Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7
days a week? Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter? Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job? Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year? Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state? Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter? I guess
having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all, even send a helicoper...

...if necessary. Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire,
a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top
notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and
your belongings. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own cell phones and computers. How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world? Maybe that is what has 67 percent of you folks unhappy. Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the...

...world loves the U.S., yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain
about what we don't have , and what we hate about the country instead of
thanking the good Lord we live here.I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks? The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me? Did you hear how bad the president is on the news or talk show?Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't
take a look around for yourself and see all...

...the good things and be glad? Think about it......are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the "Media" told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day. Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go. They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an ''other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig. So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans? Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it
bleeds, it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are...

...for-profit organizations. They offer what sells , and when criticized, try to defend their
actions by "justifying" them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way......Insane! Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media. Shut off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There is exponentially more good than bad.We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative. With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, "Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

I received this through email. So now my questions is....do all of you agree with this? I know that I certainly do! I've posted it because I agree and I wanted to share with others and get others thinking about the crap our country complains about. We've got it made in the shade people, so what are we all really b**ching about?

I've gone back and read a few of your answers and wanted to leave a reply to them...yes there are some hiccups in our government just as any other however we have NO reason to complain. We're all spoiled brats. Yes there are illegal aliens living and working in this country. Yes I bust my *** everyday to pay for them w/MY tax dollars, but I would rather do that than see those people have to go back to where they came from! Do you know what life was like for them in their homeland? NO! Maybe if we shipped some of you off and made you live in those places you'd understand.
People are unhappy about an unnecessary war?! Do you people even remember how pissed we all were when 9/11 happened? The ENTIRE country was screaming for justice, and now half the people who wanted it have become hypocrites! You've got to be kidding me.
As for lying politicians...show me one person aside from Jesus Christ who doesn't lie and I'll give you a pat on the back!

I totally agree with you! We Americans have it pretty darn good. I've lived outside the U.S.(specifically, Mexico)and that made me realize just how good things are here.
As for Newsweek, their "polls" have a long history of being heavily slanted to the left. I always wonder who, exactly, they poll?? They've never asked me. But, maybe it's because I work full time and have a family to take care of.

Newsweek only accept political ads from Democrats and their survey's consist of their readers, not america as a whole. I am too busy working to take these "surveys" everyone talks about. I do know that myself and most people I hang out with our Republican and none of us have ever been asked to take a political survey so I don't believe that crap. besides, 70% of the country disagreed with Lincoln about freeing the slaves but does that make Lincoln wrong?

And lastly, posting mail forwards you recieve from friends on Y/A is as pathetic as it gets.

People are unhappy with the war and with Bush.

Bush didn't make this country great. Bush isn't going to show up to put out the fire in my home.

I *really* don't understand what the grocery store has to do with the President!

This country is great. People are unhappy with the direction we've been heading for the last 6 years or so. As Americans we are entitled to that opinion!

I agree with what you are saying. I think there are too many people out there who expect the government to be a cure-all for every malady. The FDR generation was raised on this premise, which is why a lot of them have retired and went back to work because they found themselves broke.

good point. it is easy to take all our comfort and luxuries for granted. but the question is "the direction our country is headed" not the state of our country now.
the direction it is headed has energy issues which means we may not always have air conditioning and electricity, water shortage issues, and serious economic issues. but that is the future and these problems can be averted if we prepare.

I've previously read this copy and paste job which you have posted. It was wrongly credited to Jay Leno. Anyhow...

I am not going to pick on any one person. I will speak in generalities...
    1. I don't like the way we cater to the illegal aliens/invaders.
    2. I don't like the way our society is moving towards a feeling of entitlement - you should have to work for what you get. Nobody is entitled to anything.
    3. I don't like the way our society is becoming a litigation lottery. The American Dream has been bastardized into finding anyone you can sue for any reason so you won't have to work another day in your life.
    4. I don't like the way people no longer take responsibilities for their actions. There is always an excuse - a reason it is not their fault.

I think this is a beautiful country and a wonderful world. Too bad people have to ruin it.

Some of your 'facts' are not as true as you or I would like to believe. For one, I can't even walk through my neighborhood without being asked for ID and destination by police. Seventy percent of Americans own homes and 95.4 percent have jobs? Clean safe motels? LOL! Not even the nice ones. And because so many goods and services are technically available does not mean everyone can afford them. However, the chief complaints of Americans are all the money and lives being wasted on the war and illegal immigration. It would seem that we are being taxed without truly being represented. Why should that make people happy?

BTW--It must be nice that the police actually do their jobs in some places. It is not so everywhere. I have been told by them on more than one occasion that they have no duty to protect me personally, and if I defend myself they will arrest me.

I've seen this before... and I'll make the same quick point...

the un-happiness is from us not continuing to exceed our own high expectiations...

if all of that is enough for you... then, that's great...

but, why is America so great and why does it have all those things? because we don't quit when things are "good".... we keep striving for EXCELLENT...

and recently, our leadership has been less than excellent... but many other things have remained "good"...

but for most "good" is not "good enough"...

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/h…

and Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11... your ignorance is a HUGE part of the problem... read the 9-11 report if you "remember 9-11" so well

Have you ever noticed in all of these polls, you have never been called to take part in any of them?

I am 55 years old. I have never received a phone call, e-mail, text message or stopped in the street to take part in any of these polls. So just exactly where do they do them and how do they select people to take part?

If these polls are done in Washington DC, you can bet they will follow the Democrat Party Line... If these polls are done in an area that is almost all poor and black, you can bet they will follow the Democrat Party line.

POLLS are for suckers.....go out and ask your friends what they think. Look at how people VOTE. Every two years we have a major election. If the polls do not reflect what the election outcome is, either the election was in error ....or....hold on to your hat....the POLLS are in error....
