Go with the checkered tablecloths, it can be really cute if you pull it together with the details! Have someone make some homemade lemonade and put it into a really pretty glass container... As your centerpieces use water pails (the metal old fashioned kind) as your vases, then put lots of pretty (and inexpensive) wildflowers - like daisies and sunflowers. Use red chargers for each place setting with pretty brightly colored cloth napkins, like yellow & blue. Do the traditional picnic/cookout foods - hotdogs, burgers - whatever you guys like the most! It will be so fun & MEMORABLE!!

Thank you I loved the water pail idea, hoping to find those somewhere though..
I hope you get this comment --- If you guys have Big Lots, try looking there - they are really cheap!! Also, check the garden centers at Kmart, Wal-Mart & Target (or any other discount store like that) They MAY even be at dollar stores?? Not sure though.. Good Luck!!

Red checkered table cloths; hot & cold food, like baked beans & potato salad.

Go to your local wal mart or other one stop shop store and check out their summer section. They usually have great big plastic bowls, platters and decorations that are super cheap in bright colors. You can use them to serve food and put them on the centers of the tables with some candles for centerpieces. Call a local BBQ place and have them cater (Red, Hot and Blue, Dickeys, and others.) Serve refreshing sweet tea and fruit punches. Have fun!

sounds great!! will this be at your home??

depending on your wedding colors, get some checkered table cloths.. have a buffet style set-up for the food and have light and yummy picnic foods.. like hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwhiches, chips, baked beans, etc. etc. and have a drink table with all different kinds of sodas and drinks for your guests.. i would set up the tables nicely with the checkered table cloths and maybe have a few candles or something on the table with baskets with flowers in them as the centerpieces.. just to look picnic-y.. you could also put the food in baskets (without handles) to make it seem like you brought the food in a basket for a picnic.. just some ideas!! congrats on your wedding!!

It would be great if you could get actual picnic tables into the event location, but if not, any table with a red and white checkered tablecloth will say "picnic" right off the bat. You could go with paper plates and cups and plastic cutlery, but if that seems a little too informal, regular place settings should be fine. Find a caterer who will do either straight up picnic style food or slightly fancier food based on traditional picnic fare. Or you could make your own. Picnic baskets filled with flowers or favors would make great centerpieces.

This sounds like a really fun idea. Good luck!

Well, I disagree with red and white checkered tablecloths.. it might just look really kitsch. I would go for checks or stripes in your wedding colors. That way you keep it casual and fun, but not looking like a burger stand.

Set out cute bunches of flowers in glass jars, daisies would be lovely.

Try to use accents of wicker or baskets. For example, flowers in baskets for centerpieces.

    Good luck!

set the tables up like you would a picnic red and white checked table covers. Since you are doing the reception indoors I would skip the citronella centerpiece candles(LOL) Maybe use some plastic grapes on a vine or in bunches wrapped around a vase of lemons or limes. The other thing you can do is go for a romantic picnic maybe wrap a vine of ivy around around a bottle of wine with bunches of grapes. There is a really inexpensive wine called Boones it tastes more like a wine cooler and is SUPER cheap. You can get wine glasses from a dollar store and a lot of them will be painted with summer flowers they could also be used as favors. Have finger sandwiches raw veggies and chocolate dipped strawberries and maybe a bowl of cubed fruit

Every bride has envisioned her wedding day at one time or another and this is often even before she ever got engaged! While most brides will imagine the perfect ceremony, many also go so far as to envision the perfect wedding reception. The ceremony is all about expressing love and commitment to one another while the wedding reception is about celebrating that love and commitment. That means that both aspects of the wedding should be thoroughly planned so that the bride and groom have the wedding of their dreams!

    Theme

It is likely that the bride and groom have chosen a special theme for their wedding. This could be an extravagant theme such as Mardi Gras or a fun one like a beach theme. It may be as simple as a specific color scheme. Regardless of this theme, the bride and groom will need to plan all aspects of the wedding reception to incorporate that theme and set the stage for the perfect wedding reception. The perfect wedding reception will incorporate the theme of the wedding into even the smallest details.

    Decorations

The perfect wedding reception will include beautiful decorations. This is most often floral arrangements and lighting, but can be very elaborate based on the specific theme of the wedding. Depending on the wedding reception venue, most sites will decorate the room according to the specifics set forth by the bride and groom. Otherwise, it will be the responsibility of the bride and groom to decorate the reception venue themselves.

    Food

Another aspect to the perfect wedding reception is the food. Everyone remembers whether food is good or bad and you are much better to be remembered for serving good food! The food does not need to be elaborate as long as it tastes good. Every wedding reception will be different. Some will have seven course meals while others will be wedding cake only. It all depends on what the definition of the perfect wedding reception is to the bride and groom.

    Music

Music is also important in the perfect wedding reception. The music should reflect the theme of the wedding but should also be music that guests will enjoy. Most wedding receptions include dancing, and guests want to dance to the best music!

The perfect wedding reception is within reach of the bride and groom as long as the plan their time and money accordingly. Every bride and groom deserves to have this perfect day and that includes having a reception to remember.

    I totally love your idea!

Make it all look like a picnic in the park. Maybe have wild flowers as centrepieces. Have fun checkered table clothes with fun plates. Maybe have outdoor-style lanterns for lighting. Hot and cold food like burgers, sandwiches, potato salad, iced tea, lemonade, etc.

    Sounds cool! Good luck!
