The below answer is wrong. Surgery is not always warranted for gall stones, though most times a doctor would rather ok surgery as it is the easiest way to handle the problem at hand. Being someone who has has their gallbladder out the symptoms are as follows:

***Also, please note that if you are in severe pain and particularly if your attack symptoms are accompanied by fever DO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY. The following symptoms are typical of a gallbladder attack.***

* Moderate to severe pain under the right side of the rib cage
* Pain may radiate through to the back or to the right shoulder
* Severe upper abdominal pain (biliary colic)
* Nausea
* Queasiness
* Vomiting
* Gas
* Burping or belching
* Attacks are often at night
* Attacks often occur after overeating
* Pain will often but not always follow a meal with fats or grease
* Pain may be worse with deep inhalation
* Attacks can last from 15 minutes to 15 hours

*moderate to severe pain radiating from your upper right abdomen to the middle of your chest, sometimes it radiates to the shoulder. ( pain in everyone is different)

*Yellowing or jaundice of the skin and/or whites of the eyes. This may mean a stone is trapped in your bile duct, and the liver is not functioning at full capacity as it should. Liver damage can result from this.

FYI-Foods high in rich fatty content will usually trigger a gallbladder attack. Please see your doctor promptly, it is important that you rule out other medical causes of pain. You will most likely get refereed to an ultrasound technician who will take pictures of your organs on a computer screen. The procedure is painless and doesn't take long. Gallbladders can get infected and burst, once that happens it can be life threatening. take care of this ok?

If it turns out you do have a gallbladder issue, you will be scheduled to talk to a surgeon who will explain the procedure to you and go over things. It can be scary, but nowadays, cholesectomy is far less complicated than it was twenty, even ten years ago. It is usually done via laparoscopic. Which involves four small incisions on your abdomen. The procedure lasts about 45 minutes. Post surgery pain, for me lasted about a week and a half. Within two weeks I was able to resume normal daily activities. This probably is a book of info, but hey at least it is thorough answer ^_^
