Linux is free. You don't need a free Linux site. You just need a Linux site. :-)

In order to decide on a distro, go to distrowatch.org, pick a distro (you will see the listing of newly released Linux distros ('distro' is a name for a Linux variant) on the front page). Click on the icon and you will see a page which presents basic info about the distro. Find links to reviews and read on.

I recommend you start with openSUSE (http://www.opensuse.org/) or Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/). You can also find LiveCD version of Linux which run off a CD (they don't touch your hard drives) and let you see how Linux looks and feels without installing. Knoppix is great for that purpose (http://www.knoppix.com/).

Once you find the right distro for you, you will seek out the download section of the distro's web site and download an ISO file (CD image file) which you will then burn to a CD using Nero or similar software. Here are instructions on how to burn a CD/DVD image:
