I want to play football, but I'm a girl. Help?

Question

My dad played American football when he was in High School, he doesn't think I would be able to play football. Me and my one other friend would be the only girls on the team. I really want to play, I know I can take the pain (I've been doing karate for 6 years, I know pain) and all the practices, but my parents don't think girls can play on a team of guys so they don't want me to do it. Is there anything I can do or say to convince my parents I can do it?

I'm sorry but this might be a really tough sell. Football is a very violent sport. Look at the side line of any team and you will see someone on crutches, someone with his arm in a sling, or his hand rapt in bandages. Your parents might be having trouble with the thought of there little girl with those types of injuries. Size speed and strength are also factors. If your not bigger, faster,or stronger than any of the boys then you're more likely to get hurt. Your parents might also be thinking about there little girl in a locker room full of boys! I know that sounds silly to you but parents worry about silly things sometimes. To start talk to the coach to make sure he would welcome you on his team. Let him know you might not be able to go out for the team but if you did would it work out . Only if you have all the answers will you have a Chance to change your parents mind good luck!

FYI the football team is for girls & guys, just no girls signed up.

I think you will be fine if you do it with youre friends. If you really want to do something, they will probably let you. Just tell them that you're used to this stuff from doing karate, and that youre friends will do it with you. Maybe theyll let you try it out, then if you dont like it, you dont have to do it

Its true that most girls could not compete. It's a simple fact that the average woman is not as physically durable or strong as the average man. However - there are always exceptions.

On my high school football team we had one girl. She played on the offensive line and was extremely good. She was 1st team All-District her senior year.

You have to be honest with yourself - can you compete physically with the boys you'd be playing with/against? The girl on our team was big (220lbs+) and stronger than most of the guys. If you're of a slight build, and not extraordinarily muscular for a girl then you'll only get hurt.

idk about wr or rb, but i do know a girl who is a kicker/punter on a high school team, but i guess if ur good enough at wr/rb, the coach will put you on the field : )

My good friend's mom played football in high school..... and she was the starting linebacker for the varsity team. If you and your friend have what it takes, go for it. Talk to the coach, show him your skills, ge tthe coach to talk to your parents with you.

here is my advice coming from a high school football team with two girls

are pretty big for a girl? u cant just take the pain, u need to dish them out. trust me, the guys on a football team are BIG! If u can knockdown the boys, go for it, if not, play powderpuff and kick some chick *** :)

id imagine other girls looking at you wierd. but its cool, ive seen girls play football when i played football in HS-she was a field goal kicker though. just tell them if you can handle karate then you can handle football

Honestly, it is probably not a good choice for high school. However after high school, or even now, look around your local areas for a women's league. Many areas have them. I have a cousin who plays in a league in Sacramento and they travel and take it very seriously. She loves it. She was like you and wanted to play in high school, but it didn't;t work out so she discovered this league and is doing great. Best of luck to you, football is the best sport ever.

wr is a posibility rb is a NO you will get creamed. kicker or punter could be other positions. dont think that they are not important. they are go ask the bills patriots and colts if kickers are important. if you really you could go pro. if your ability and heart is great you can do it. girls can go to war why cant they play a stupid game.

I do not think girls should be allowed to play men's football, plain and simple. Why is that women think they should be able to go play men's sports? What do you think the answer would be to a guy that said he wanted to play softball, or girls tennis, or girls basketball, or girls volleyball, or run girls track, field hockey. After the ridiculing he received, the answer would be a big fat NO!!!! Stick to powder puff and if you feel the need to strap on the pads, find a women's league.

i play varsity football, but on the JV team there is one girl, shes pretty tough, but shes treated like one of the guys, show that you come to play, not be a cheerleader,

tell your parents that it will show great responsibility

I think if you really want to do it, you should tell your parents that you think you're capable of playing as well as "the boys" and hopefully they will understand how badly you want to play.

if your in high school you would have to talk to the coach, some states don't let girls play others do. but you said american football so that sounds like you aren't in the states so I don't have any Idea of any where eles other then germany that really plays any( ie the world football team are almost all now in germany, and a few high school teams in and around US bases)

There is a semi pro womens league in the states but I have not heard anything the last 2 years, so I don't know if it is still afloat.
