Anyone watch the Briere Interview?

Briere was interviewed a short while ago, right after the game. I'm a Rangers fan, but I have to say I was extrememely impressed by his demeanor, poise and honesty. He said he hadn't had a chance to watch the replay of the no-goal at the end of the game, but said that he hoped the league got it correct because he admitted that they blew it the game before with Rachunek's goal being waived off for the Rangers.

I thought it really showed his character that he blatantly said that Rachunek's goal should have counted. I can see why he's (co-) captain. Maybe Briere should teach Ruff how to be a gentleman and real stand-up guy. I've got a lot of respect for Briere now.

Additional Details

thehabsfan, the question is/was not whether there was an intentional kick, the question was whether there was even a distinct kicking motion. A distinct kicking motion is what the rule states, and everyone and their mother could clearly see there was no distinct kicking motion. Briere knows it, and I'm sure the other Sabres know it too. Rangers went on to win G3 anyways, so it didn't make a difference (which may be one reason Briere doesn't mind admitting that that was a goal), but don't go act like you know something if you don't understand the rules and what actually caused the goal to be waived off.

Couldn't agree more. I'm a Ranger fan too, and heard him talking from the other room & couldn't believe what I was hearing. I rewinded (rewound?) it to listen to his whole comment. I am now an official fan of Briere. I could not believe that a young, popular, talented sport star would say something that impressive. All of the other sports leagues should get a copy of that tape and show it to their up & coming stars as a lesson in how to act if you want people to care about you, your team and your sport. Briere is obviously classy kid.

Ruff and many of their fans could really learn a thing or two...

Good on him. Just wish he wouldn't dive so much.

I've always liked Briere...he's one of the old fashioned hockey players who want to earn a cup, and not have it handed to him.

I'm not a Sabre's fan, but its guys like Briere that I hope win a cup

Yeah, Briere's always been a humble and respectful individual. He is really one of the good guys in the sport. He and Drury make a terrific tandem.

Someone had a post asking which were the worst trades in league history. Do you think Phoenix moving Briere for Chris Gratton qualifies as a top 5 gaffe? Yeah, a little bit.

Wow, I didn't expect that out of you. I agree whole heartedly. Campbell, Drury, and Miller are really good guys too. Lindy Ruff is a great coach, and is a gentlemen, I know this because I've talk to him a couple times at a bowling tournament my cousins girlfriend was at. Just that he blew up one time at the end of game two doesn't reflect the way he is.

What fans ? how are sabres fans not good people ? I still don't understand that. Briere diving ? I've seen a lot of dives or embellished "penalties" from both teams.

It's a shame that the Sabres wont be able to keep both Drury and Briere next year.

Very good move by Briere. When teams get caught up in the officials' controversies, it tends to ruin them. The Sabres needed that out of their co-captain.

They could have blown the series and their season if they dwelled on that call.

Intentional or not, a puck CANNOT be kicked in, or accidentally kicked in, or anything of the sort unless it's by the opposition. These are NHL rules, I don't care what Briere says rules are f*cking rules. He's a nice guy, and he's a stand-up player, but the Rachunek "goal" was no good, plain and simple... I assume a bunch of Sabres fans will give me a thumbs down for the truth (as usual), but know that when you do it won't change the fact you don't know sh*t about hockey, I call it like I see it.

Recent Addition: No, actually you CANNOT hit the puck in the net with your skate or hand unless it's on your own goal, which isn't something you would want, obviously. I suggest you read up more, because you've no clue what you're talking about, know the rules guy, I do, it's not really that hard. No stick, no goal.

I am not a Buffalo fan, but I have always liked Briere. He is honest and open ... best of all, he will fit right in wearing a Montreal Jersey next season.
    Go Habs
