Ways to keep you neighbors from walking in your yard?

I have neighbors on the left and right of me, and these neighbors are friends. They cross our yard to get to each others house. My husband and I have asked them to not walk across our lawn as it has worn a path through it. They have not listened! We are getting ready to lay sod and want for our lawn to look really nice, but how can we keep our neighbors out of it so no more paths form? We have thought about fencing around our front yard, but thats a little more of an expense then we need right now. Any suggestions?

If you're gonna resod then put stakes and wire with small tie flags spaced every 12in. use stakes that stick up about 2 1/2 ft. and put ''NO TRESPASSING'' signs up and once you post the signs and they still walk through your yard, you now have a legal recourse. you could have them arrested. A private property sign works as well. good luck!

Thanks for your answer. I contacted my local sheriffs department and was told the same thing. Hate to go to that length, but being nice just doesn't work anymore.

Give them their share of the bill for the sod you are replacing and when they ask why tell them again. Let them know they are free to trespass on your property but they'll pay for the convenience.

Dig really deep trenches around the edges of your yard, and throw some loose grass over top of the ditches so when they try to walk through it they fall. Maybe even fill the trenches with water so they will drown lol.

Maybe you should explain to your neighbors how much time and money that you spend to make you lawn look good. If they are really good friends they will respect you request and walk on the sidewalk.

Put up a do not walk on the grass sign. One in the direction of your one neighbor and one in the direction of another neighbor. It could be cute with a smiley face on it. You are telling them, but being nice about it. If it still doesn't help tell them directly but firmly so the know you mean business and ask them to please respect your request.

Hate to say it, but you will nave to put out the extra cash for a nice fence (please no chainlink). Find something that won't overly detract from the yard itself but add to the style. Just remember this saying "Good fences make good neighbors"

You can cough up the money for the fence or tell them in a louder angrier voice to stay the fu(k off your lawn.

When it comes down to it people will not listen, they hear you but they won't listen. The only way to stop them from crossing is to put up a fence before you lay sod. You should also plan on putting in a sprinkler system to help water it.

Get artificial grass - they can't wear a path through that.

Put in a row of bushes or a hedge. You can get them alot cheaper than fencing, if you plant yourself. Make both sides match and they wont think anything of it. =)
