Can Trepiline (for anxiety) and Inderal (Beta-blocker(also anxiety) be used concurrently?

I have been on a very low doage of Inderal 10mg once a day(beta blocker) for anxiety and have been taking it for several years. I have recently been prescribed Trepiline (25mg to start - moving to 50mg daily)(doc knows I am on inderal) - but when I read up about Trepiline on the net I am told it should not be taken at the same time as a beta-blocker. Can anyone shed any light on this for me as I am anxious enough as it is without adding to it with fears about mixing drugs I ought not to be mixing. Thanks very much. K-l

That is fine to mix those meds. If you are worried, go to www.drugs.com and click on drug interaction.

Social anxiety can cause these feelings, which can also lead to severe depression,
http://www.socialanxietyinstitute.org/ds…

There is hope; I've been there, and still am there, it is a long, hard struggle. I recommend
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cognitive_b… worked best for me, with mild anti-anxiety meds. I suffered from social anxiety for over 15 years. I've tried individual therapy, and group therapy and studied psychology for 10 years, as a profession, but also with the hope to cure myself.

Depending on your comfort level, you could go to a psychologist that practices CBT and specializes in anxiety disorders, seek a group therapy, or create one. Usually those that do attend the group therapy are a bit more high functioning because as you know, it can be difficult to speak in a group.

Another idea is to see if there are any local research studies being conducted that you could participate in.

The program that finally worked the best for me is this one: http://www.socialanxietyinstitute.org/au… and I was lucky enough to have a structured behavioral group to go along with it. Sometimes the people that actually attend this program come back home and form groups.

I recommend a mild anti-anxiety med, and a beta-blocker (it will reduce shaking and tremors enormously, but only use in extreme situations) in addition to CBT therapy.

Any questions, let me know ... I can't tell you how much this has improved my life!

Inderal is a very good beta blocker since it maintains your blood pressure as well. As with any medication beta blockers used for long periods of times have withdrawl affects. These can last for a long time and be very annoying. Beta blockers do not treat anxiety. They are used to lessen the symptoms. The only thing that treats the anxiety is getting on an anti-depresesnat and faithfully taking it for atealst 2-3 months. If you do not want to take medications exeercise and a postive frame of min d will help. If you can tpossibly do that you m ay need to check in. Thats the only thing i can say as far as taht. Beta blockers are wonderufuil but do not treat and balance out your body as anti-depressants do...
