In an emergency, it is relatively safe to induce vomiting to keep it from being absorbed, although this has fallen out of favor when compared to swallowing activated charcoal. However, most of us don't have activated charcoal lying around, and few people keep syrup of ipecac these days, so your best bet is still to go to the emergency room. Curiously, there is actually a inhaled medication for cystic fibrosis that, when injected, seems to prevent tylenol from damaging the liver, but this usually only done if there are already signs of liver damage.
For non-emergencies, like "oh good grief, I didn't know these were extra-strength!" you can usually relax. Doses as high as 4000 mg are usually harmless, except for those with other liver problems. Still, call your physician or go to the ER if there is any doubt.
