How many companies cn legally be under a corporate umbrella?

There is really no limit. But there is a question whether those entities you are thinking about need to be corporations with their attendant franchise taxes and administrivia. The umbrella corporation shields the shareholders from liability so unless you need the shield the other entity assets from liability in another entity or plan to sell them soon a divisional structure may be best. If you plan to finance the entities individually you will need separate corporations.
