Ao smith water heaters?

How do I check to see if the thermostats are working efficiently

Open the covers...set both to lowest setting. turn top up until you hear a click. wait for the bubbling sound after this. turn back down, and repeat with lower...if it does the same...all is well. If not, possible an element is bad.

    The easiest way would be to check the temp of the water coming out of the faucet. If a water heater thermostat goes bad, it will usually stick in the "on position" and the water will be way too hot until the pressure relief valve opens. If it sticks in the off position, you won't have hot water. But after working maintenance for many years, I've hardly ever had a thermostat go bad, it's almost always the element. Hope this helps.
