Emo stands for "Emotional"

It is kinda like a step up from punk, yet not quite to gothic, yet.

Emo people usually dress in black (but it is not the long scare trench coats that goths wear)

It is just teenagers.

Emo hair is usually black (maybe a stripe of another color in it, too)

The styles are usually pretty straightforward, they are kinda chunky, and cover up lots of your face.

Hope I helped!

Thanks, you gave me all the info I was looking for!!
Those dorky kids in school that dont really know what place they fall into...they arent book nerks...and they arent jocks. So for some reason they came up with a style called "emo" where in their own little world it is ok for guys to where low cut, ***-tight black pants!

Emo is a genre of music that started in the 90's evolving from punk rock with a more "emotional" tone and has been cheapened by the crap Hot Topic and other "punk" stores portray.

It's not a hairstyle. It's not goth. Nor a pair of pants, or a white belt.

"Emo" is not a genre of music, nor is it a style of dress or hair. It is a term people use to (incorrectly) label people that are into the new style of punk music (and often indie rock). It is considered offensive in a sense, too...not to mention a strong display of musical and social ignorance.

Emo music started as a subgenre of Harcore Punk in the DC Scene in the eighties. It spread and mingled stylistically with straightedge punk through the midwest for twenty years, before some record execs appropriated the term for the current crop of Punk-Pop bands.

Hey...this is like a tag along, but would the culture club from the 80's be considered emo?

emo hair is when your crying and very emotional then go into your bathroom with a knife or sissors and just start chopping at your own hair. People like to think its hair all in the eyes but its not true. Emo is not a fashion statement even though people like to think it is.

Today, Emo has become a catchall for describing the introverted loner types, youths who self-identify as outsiders and individualists (despite the somewhat telling conformity of their fashion sense). Hair: long bangs, choppy layered, colored black. That's the mass-produced Hot Topic version.

Culture Club was most certainly not Emo. Since at the time Emo was underground punk music. Much faster and brutal than anything mainstream, though with more watery guitars than hardcore stuff.

wow. emo is actually people who cut theirselves with razorblades or sharp objects. they mainly cut on their wrists or theighs. a bunch of my friends are emo, and i try to get em to stop but yeah.

I think it is rude to generalize like you all are doing dont put us in a box. Then, you wonder why we cut ourselves. You need to mind your own buisness and not worry about our clothes and wether we cut or not! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGG…

Emo kids can have their hair range to many colors, all of the colors being either bright or bold. Their hairstyles are spiky, normally more than one color, and long bangs crossing their face. A perfect example would be at this website: www.phirebrush.com/issues/40/a…

Do a Google image search for Will Leitch and you will have your answer.

All I have to say is that every one of these answers are almost right but none are. Emo, no matter what it is referring to, always comes from the same source. Do a search for the little known comedian named Emo Phillips. You'll notice his peculiar hairstyle and attitude; and all will make sense.

That's funny! She just came to get some advice on Emo hair to expand to different tastes, hoping for someone who gets Emo styles-And ends up hearing from idiots who have never tried being like us. Don't clump us together. Even the label ticks me off. We aren't all a bunch of pitiful cutters.
