There are many types of marine turtles that gain attention from conservationists. The leatherback is at the forefront because of their rapidly dwindling numbers. However, Green turtles in the Atlantic, as well as Loggerheads and Kemp's Ridley turtles are also in the midst of battling off extinction. Different parts of the world conserve different turtles based on their nesting characteristics. I did research through the University of Central Florida (Orlando) in Melbourne Beach, FL working on loggerheads, greens, and leatherbacks; although our green turtle and leatherback census was much less than our loggerheads. The fight for the turtles is ongoing, and I plea for everyone to get involved in saving the ocean's marine turtles.
