Has anyone seen the ALASKA BAY DRAIN ?

I remember seeing old film that was taken from
a boat in an Alaskan bay during the opening of
an underwater fault. The water from this bay just
disappeared as though a giant stopper was pulled
from a sink. I remember it as being black & white
and VERY grainy, but it clearly showed the "before
and after" of the incident. PLEASE somebody let
me know when this happened or where I can see
archival footage of this incident. I do not think it was
during the 1964 earthquake, and it may not have even
been Alaska, but that's how I remember it... THANKS !

Yo. I'm from Philly too. I saw the film you are talking about (History chan. I think) but haven't yet found it online. I have some leads: It wasn't Latuya Bay Alaska. The navy sloop HMS Veronica had berthed in Napier’s harbour. When the earthquake struck, the harbour bottom rose, leaving the ship aground. On deck, sailors watched as the wharf buckled, roads split open. http://www.teara.govt.nz/EarthSeaAndSky/NaturalHazardsAndDisasters/HistoricEarthquakes/6/en

The most noticeable land change was the uplifting of the Ahuriri Lagoon. The lagoon was lifted more than 2.7 metres, which resulted in draining the lagoon. This is the location of the current Hawke's Bay Airport.

Shortly after the main shake, Commander H W Morgan of HMS Veronica, which was berthed at the wharf, observed that water commenced to pour out of the harbour like a mill-race. At the channel entrance it rushed away `with a force that denied small ships entry'. Its peak flow of about 13 knots was caus

was caused by the outer margin of the lagoon being raised by two metres and the inner margin by one metre. This high rate of outflow continued past the next high tide (E8:193). Soundings taken later at Pania's rock showed a rise of four to five feet (D6(a):199).
