The deeper you dig into the world of big business, the more confused and frustrated you'll become as you start to realize that one brand is actually owned by some other brand, or affiliated with some totally different company. It's like a complicated web of offshoots and secret deals and buyouts and mergers, until it feels like everything in the world might be owned by Bill Gates. Unless you are buying things only from very small, privately owned companies that don't sell stock, you can never be certain what or whom you're really supporting. That's why most people who worry about such things choose local businesses owned by people they know and trust, and never buy from mega-corporations.
