I have a bamboo plant I bought in a vase with water. Best way to care for it?

I thought it was a mini plant and someone told me to cut the roots off, but am afraid it will die on me. My husband bought it for me before he passed away and I dont want to ruin it by doing the wrong thing with it. Help!

There are 2 kinds of bamboo. House and garden. If it's in water it probably is the house plant kind. Leave it in water, and just maintain the water level. I've had mine for 7 years in the original container.

Thanks for all your help! If something starts going wrong with it I will try putting it in soil!

Bamboo is an extremely hardy plant-just stick it in a pot full of dirt and believe me-it will grow-I have a 4' bamboo plant-right now-outside in 0 degree Ohio weather-still green and Heaty!
One thing you don't want to do is plant it in the ground outside-they produce a long root system and they will soon take up all of your yard. The one I planted outside-I put in a large pot so the roots cannot escape
