Some radio stations announce "our traffic report is via ELS Surround Jam Cam", and the Accura car ads say they have an "ELS Surrround" sound system in the,. What in the name of acronyms is "ELS".

ELS are the initials of Elliot Scheiner, a Grammy award winning music producer and engineer who is an authority on multichannel (surround) sound and mixing. The ELS system was developed by Panasonic and is available in Acura automobiles. It provides discrete 5.1 audio (six channels) for cars - the first system designed for cars like this.

BTW, the six channels are: front left, front right, rear left, rear right and sub woofer.
