Can anybody explain the Silver Surfer to me?

I'll choose Marvel over DC any day of the week but i could never get into silver surfer.

The Silver Surfer was a citizen named Norin Radd of the Planet Zenn-La. The giant planet devourer Galactus was about to destroy his home world but Norin Radd convinced him to spare his planet with the understanding that he would become his herald,looking for suitable worlds for him to consume...His original title in the old D.C. Comics was "Silver Surger,Herald of Galactus". I read over 500 comics as a kid EASY,,,--Has Class 100 strength,He can lift,press over 100 tons..

aw, man. The surfer is so mysterious. I haven't read a SS comic in 30 years! DIdn't know they still made them.

He was cancelled for awhile and then he came back. He started out as a scout for a guy who ate planets for lunch. The Silver Surfer found suitable planets (apparently only ones with people and civilizations for a reason I can't recall). I could never figure out what he was about either.

What do you want explained? As I understand it, and I'm not a huge Silver Surfer fan, myself, he was evil and then became good and travels around space on a surf board that does special things.

Other than that, I don't really know. But if you want a lot more information, try looking him up on Wikipedia.

Originally he was Norrin Radd, a young astronomer of the planet Zenn-La. He agreed to serve as herald to the god-like entity, Galactus, in order to save Zenn-La from the world devourer's insatiable hunger. Granted enormous cosmic powers (the Power Cosmic), a silvery appearance and a surfboard-like vehicle — all of which were modeled after a childhood fantasy of Radd — the Silver Surfer roamed the cosmos, searching for new planets for Galactus to consume.

In the classic “The Coming of Galactus” story arc in Fantastic Four #48-50 (1966), the Silver Surfer encountered Earth's Fantastic Four and betrayed Galactus, who doomed him to exile on Earth. In tune with the counterculture of the era, the Surfer explored his new home planet in a heavily philosophical late 1960s spin-off series. Another, more cosmically themed series with a freed Surfer was published from 1987 until 1998. A third series followed in 2003, lasting only a year.

The character was featured in adaptations of “The Coming of Galactus” in both the 1960s and 1990s Fantastic Four animated series. He starred in a short-lived solo animated series in 1998, which blended cel and computer animation.

A sequel to the 2005 Fantastic Four film, scheduled for 2007, will be called Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Early promotional materials indicate it will be a loose adaptation of "The Coming of Galactus" with the Surfer more of a central villain.

I kinda agree with you on this because SS always seemed boring to me as a stand alone character.

He was only mildly interesting when interacting with other supers, but even that would get tedious.
