Additionaly, free trade is harmful to the United States as it allows imports to flood the domestic market, leaving the nation dependent upon foreign products while reducing it's ability to regulate the kinds of products that enter the country. As a result, American business owners may devalue its local workforce in favor of cheaper labor and less restrictive environmental standards overseas leading to increased outsourcing.
The U.S. Congress has appeared unwilling to help reverse this trend, instead offering incentives to move manufacturing and other jobs overseas. American corporations have lept at the opportunity to earn the higher profits this business model allows at the expense of the local work force.

we've had products from China that were tainted with lead (such as mini blinds) and now the recent wheat gluten contamination with a rat poison that resulted in the deaths of several pets
