GENERIC NAME: metronidazole
BRAND NAME: Flagyl

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Alcohol should be avoided because metronidazole and alcohol together can cause severe nausea, vomiting, cramps, flushing, and headache. Metronidazole can increase the blood thinning effects of warfarin (Coumadin) and increase the risk of bleeding. Cimetidine (Tagamet) increases the blood level of metronidazole.

PREGNANCY: Metronidazole

had half a glass of wine while on flagyl last night-- i wish i had know about this earlier!

the effects were -horrible-. nausea, sweats, and projectile vomit down the toilet for 2-3 hours before actually getting to bed. had a restless sleep and have a headache this morning..

DON'T DO IT!

Realize that Flagyl is an ANTI-FUNGAL as well as antibiotic and wine is composed of YEAST which is what Flagyl has been "told" to kill ... I can echo ... DON'T DO IT

Also it stays in the system up to 10 days following...my son is violently ill after finishing Flagyl 3 days ago then drinking wine... vomiting lots of green bile and hurting all over, chills and fever

i just found this...might change your mind and make you realize the no alcohol thing is a myth.

one small glass of wine will not hurt, they just don't want you to consume a huge amount of alcohol as it COULD cause adverse side effects. But since you have an infection you should be very cautious.

Drinking alcohol while on Flagyl will cause a disulfiram-like reaction. Disulfiram is Antabuse, the drug taken to treat alcoholism and ingesting alcohol causes tachycardia, bronchospasm, sweating, nausea, vomiting or death. This is what you could expect with Flagyl + booze. For your protection, avoid even products that contain alcohol, such as perfume, aftershave, backrubs, cough syrups, cold medicines (NyQuil). Avoid alcohol during and for 3 days after completing your drug therapy.

So, is that one glass of wine worth all this? And, that person above me doesn't know for a fact that "one small glass" of wine won't hurt YOU.
