How do I remove chewing gum from my electric dryer without using a substance that is flamable?

I've had this problem before and all I did was remove as much as I could manually (scraping or picking it off with a stick or something that would not scratch the surface) and then using Goo-Gone to get the rest off. If it is dried on hard, this might take a little elbow grease, but it works.
