Different cultures have made their own forms of mathematics. The Mayans, Indians, Greeks, and Chinese all developed seperate math systems. Our mathematics today comes mainly from ideas developed in ancient India and Greece. Algebra and other topics were taken from India to Arabia, where they were then transferred to Europe. Most of our geometry comes from the Greeks. Calculus was developed in Europe by Sir Isaac Newton.

Mathematics is not invented, it is discovered. Since there are several different branches of math, there are many people who have discovered mathematical concepts, but credit usually goes to the people who are first to publish their discoveries.

I love math because it is in everything around us. It had to be there since the beginning or NOTHING would be still working/existing. Earth would have flown into the sun, sounds, music, even beauty wouldn't exist. So, in my humble opinion, it had to be invented by the higher power, in my case this is God. Math exists around us, mathematicians just discovered the math that is in all that is around us. And still discovering more... pi comes to mind as something that is like God, it exists, we can visualize-grasp it, but it's infinite. Great question!

In most cases no one invented any mathematics - however, a number of different people DISCOVERED mathematics. What I mean is, no one "invented" adding. When you put things together, you are adding. It's a physical way of the universe, but someone discovered how adding "worked" , what its rules are, and how it behaves.
