if you're running a much older version (e.g. v6) you might want to consider slowly working your way up through the last two major versions first...

if you archive your yahoo messenger sessions do consider backing these up prior to your upgrade just incase something goes wrong..
grab a copy of your profiles folder...
C:\ Program Files\ Yahoo!\ Messenger\ Profiles
right click and select copy
left click on your desktop (or where ever suits) and select paste
this will give you a full copy of your profiles and your archives, I try to do this monthy so I just rename Profiles to Profiles_august06 or Profiles_sept06 etc that way I know which month is the latest if i ever need to restore :)
