    e-learning is learning a subject via computers - online or offline documents , software that explain a concept, an online course where you'll learn online and be tested online, etc. Basically, it is electronic learning.

    It's short for "electronic learning" but it's still up for debate whether or not any actual learning occurs. It's a blanket term for any courseware that is delivered via electronic means (usually on the web or on CDs).

    When I think of e-learning I think of what I do as an adjunct professor - that is Internet based education. Obviously it can mean a lot of things, but the opportunities these days for picking up skills, ideas, even a career via the web are unprecedented and are especially viable for special-ed and or other disabled people. I'm disabled myself.

    So while it can have a number of definitions, the most practical and encompassing meaning is what I described above.
