Zoloft and other types of antidepressants are commonly used to treat anxiety disorders. So relax, let the medicine do its thing. It usually can take up to 6 weeks to notice any change and it will be so subtle you might not notice it until you notice you are less anxious. That's the great thing about the new antidepressants, esp. Zoloft. You don't feel any different, one day you'll just notice that you are having less problems than before.

yeah its a pretty good anti-depressant. the trouble with all of them is it takes so long to see or feel a change.anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. Zoloft is one of the good ones though. Take care.

I had taken zoloft myself for awhile, but for some reason they switched me to paxil.

Having anxiety and panic attacks CAN be a sign of depression. And, just because you're taking a drug that's used for depression, that doesn't mean that's why your doc is prescribing it. I don't like take meds either, but the fact is they really can help. Give it some time. Stick with it. Zoloft takes a bit of time to work and it doesn't work for everyone, but that's unfortunately the nature of many mental health drugs. Be patient and work with your doc and you'll get better. Even if you have to try something else in the near future. Giving it a chance to work helps YOU.

I took Zoloft when I suffered from Post Pardom. It did help me; however, it was really hard to get off of it. I could not quit taking it w/o weaning myself off. When I say that, I mean it took almost ten months to get off of it. I know several people who had the same problems. Coming off it made me real dizzy and my balance was off. I have panic attacks and am anxious occassionally so my doctor subscribed Xanax. I take it only when I need it and it is not a everyday pill. That way, my body does not become addictive to it and it helps so much better. I would talk to your doctor about prescribing you something just for panic related symptoms and something you can take on a as needed basis. Good Luck and hang in there.

My husband was given zoloft for anxiety. It is not just for depression. As far as anyone being able to tell you if it would work for you, no one can. Every person is different. It just may work for you and I will tell you, my husband didn't suffer any side effects and you may not or you may. You will only know these things if you try it.

I take Zoloft for depression. I agree with the others that it takes a while to start working. I could finally tell a difference in how I was feeling emotionally, but still felt like something wasn't right. Since June, I have been going to counseling in addition to taking the Zoloft. The counseling has made a huge difference.
    Good luck.

Zoloft works very well for anxiety and panic atttacks. Make sure you are getting a high enough dose. That is why they prescribed it for you. Also give it a chance to work is takes a couple weeks or so.

Zoloft works for anxiety which is closely related to depression. I have both and am starting to feel positive results from Zoloft, more so on the anxiety front.
