What is the difference between a light brown hair dye and light ash brown?

Does anyone know the answer? Once someone told me ash hides the red? Is that true? Thanks in advance!!!

The color wheel is broken down into 6 different primary and secondary colors. Anything with an ash base means that the primary pigmentation of that particular color is from the cool side of the wheel and it's meant to cancel warm colors. However, depending on which cool color your base is (Green, violet or blue) that will dictate what warm color it will cancel (Red, orange or yellow). The term "Light Brown" only refers to the level of color. In hair color the level refers to the amount of pigment or how light or dark it is. Level 1 is the darkest (black) and level 10 is the lightest (Pale yellow)

I don't know that for sure, but I have a girl friend whom hates ash tones because they are not warm, or do not flatter her coloring, I suppose it depends on you skin tone what hue would work best for you. I do know that she has a warm skin tone that is why she prefers warm hues, and that's what she uses, hair dye that says "warm brown, or warm blond, etc.." don't know if that helps you are not.

light ash tends to be a little redder and light brown is has a darker hue to it.

Ash means - a blue or green base. When trying to cover up a certain tone (such as red) - you want to used the tone/base that is opposite it on the color wheel - the colors complimentary color. So yes, ash(green) base will cancel out - or cover red tones.

Its a little hard to understand. If you don't have red in your hair, the color may or may not turn out how you would like. ... I have seen it turn a little "ashy" or in other words - "green" .... especially if you are using box color.

I would try the brown/neutral base - unless you are trying to get rid of the red.

Ash usually has green as a base. You should stay away from anything with ash in the name.
