How do you treat blisters from burning injury?

i recently had a cooking accident, and got 2nd degree burns on my hands and a bit on my face as a result. the paramedics came, but didn't think my injuries were serious enough to require doctor's attention. still, the paramedics didn't give me solid enough reccommendations on how to treat the injuries. the biggest problem is the blister i have on my right hand that is about twice the size of a quarter. i heard that yer not supposed to pop the blister, and i have iced the blister which have helped reduced the size significantly, but i still need to go to work, and i can't if i still have the blisters. what can i do to treat the blister? any reccommendation is appreciated. thank you!

Keep it clean, and dry, and don't put any "old wives" remedies on it (butter, oil, etc). These actually hurt the burn by holding in the heat, thus causing a more severe burn. I'd cover it gently with non stick gauze, and wrap it with a gauze roll (but not too tightly).
Don't pop the blister; hopefully it will reabsorb.
If I were you, I'd go to the doctor's and get checked out, I don't know exactly where the burns are on your hands, but hand burns can be expecially dangerous. There's the issue of scar tissue when it heals, and it's a bad place to get an infection. I've taken people to the hospital for burns like that; it's nothing to take lightly.

You're right: don't pop the blister. Right now, it's sterile (clean) inside and popping it opens it up to infection. Also, intact blisters will heal much more rapidly.

When you go to work, wrap it with dry gauze. Creat some cushion and keep it dry. If surrounding areas are painful, try applying "Mycentracin" ... it will protect the skin and help ease the pain. I was introduced to it by my dermatologist following some serious (though small) burns, and use it on everything. You can buy it at a WalMart pharmacy area where they keep ointments. They should also have various gauzes and bandages nearby.

Putting butter or oil on it is no big deal. I worked in the ER for several years and even saw people put mustard on it, but I don't think it helped any ... just smelled.

I'm pretty sure you are just supposed to loosely wrap burn blisters and let them heal. Popping them basically creates an open wound which is prone to infection. If you absolutely must get rid of them, poke a hole in them and let them drain, then cover with a bandage and some triple antibiotic ointment.
