What will end poverty, here, in the United States?

or at least lessen the gap between those that are in poverty and those that are wealthy/rich?

Additional Details

Okay, some of you are taking my question the wrong way. I am not wanting poverty to end only in the United States, I just think we need to realize how many people in the United States are at the poverty level and not only pay attention to those abroad in Africa, etc. Obviously, I am aware of the countries that are worse off than us as far as starvation, lack of safe drinking water, AIDS, etc. I pose the question because I'm quite ashamed of the poverty that exists in this country that is supposedly so great and supposedly full of opportunity. In fact, I myself and my family are living at poverty level and this is why I ask.

I am terribly sorry for this answer but it appears to me that the rich keep getting richer and the poor continue to be poor....Its a sad thing when you have people starving, wondering where the next meal is coming from, and on the other end of the scale you have people eating sixty dollar steaks. Granted some people make their own wealth but not all of us have that opportunity. The bright side to all this is that all the riches in the world wont help you to get into heaven.Live your life right and in the end you to shall be wealthy!!!!Thank GOD.
