Antidepressant?

anyone take a antidepressent that really worked for you, My doctor has been through almost all of them with me, the only one that seemed to work was paxil, but it caused acute profuse sweating and no sex life, now he tried celexa and I am really depressed, any help would be appreciated

i dont believe in taking alot of pills, though there are people that i guess have to
i see people come into the hospital every day on a butt load of pills, and the pharmacist and i just look at each other a go
well no wonder they are sick
talk to your doctor about zoloft, it works great for my o.c.d (obsessive compulsive disorder) and helps me when i get bouts of depression.
make sure your physician knows EVERYTHING you take
if your seeing a few different doctors make sure they all know everything you take
you dont want several pills doing the same thing, thats just a waste of money
its also good to use the same pharmacy, so that they make sure none of your medication interacts with each other in a bad way!
    good luck!

I suffer from Major Depression and Anxiety with anger issues and a little over 2.5 years ago I tried killing myself. I have been heavily medicated ever since.

I think, it was about 15 years or so ago that I was on Paxil, and if I remember correctly it helped me some back then.

Now, I'm on 40Mg of Lexapro, 30Mg of Remeron, and 100 Mg of Topamax twice a day. I was also taking 2 Mg of Risperdal, but I'm no longer taking it.

Unfortunately, anti-depressants do effect the sex drive. I have no interest in sex with all the anti-depressants that I take. I could take Viagra. My Dr. even gave me a free sample and a prescription for it, but I did some research on those types of drugs and threw them out.

I don't know if you have heard, but some patients have experienced vision problems even blindness from taking Viagra and those other drugs, and it turns out it's men with blood disorders. Well, I have high blood pressure and severe DVT (a huge blood clot that goes from my groin down past my right knee), so I am a very high risk. Needless to say, I don't need sex that bad to risk blindness for it.

Anyway, I'm sorry for rambling on. I hope I've answered your question.

OK. I'm going to be very frank. I was on anti-depressants of all kinds for about 5 years. One day I got so sick of the cocktails that unknowing shrinks kept giving me and in desparation went to...take a deep breath and swallow...a Scientology Mission. I was a crying mess.

While I'm not a full fledged Scientologist, I know that it worked for me. I haven't taken anti depressents since auditing and taking a few courses. Some people say Scientologist just want your money but in my opinion....shrinks and pharmasudical companies want your money more than Scientologists do.

Unpopular response maybe, but when you're a crying mess, there might be something there for you. It was for me. The Scientologists haven't "trapped" me or tried to suck me in in any way. All I can say, is I am off antidepressents today and I successfully employed as teacher...with a finger print clearance card and a clean bill of health. Always sensitive, always a musical type but happy and well adjusted.

I'd say, give it a shot. If it doesn't work...quit. They will let you...really.

Read the book Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy by David D. Burns. It helped me overcome a severe depression without drugs.

There is a supplement out there called 5 HTP. Natrol makes it. Comes in a purple box or purple bottle. Walgreens, Eckerds, and Walmart all carry it. It does what antidepressants are suppose to do without all the side affects. Cheaper too. Try that and some B Vitamins and Omega 3's and give it a few weeks, I guarantee you will feel better in no time.

Different antidepressants work differently on different people, therefore (I hate to say this, but...) you will just have to go through them one at a time until you find one that works on you...

I have been on three different ones and the one that I found was the best was Welbutrin ( sorry for the spelling). I was on Cymbalta, but I slept all the time while I was on it and the first one that I took was Zoloft and found no change in me other that I could not fall asleep at night and then once I fell asleep, i could not wake up for hours and hours.

Welbutrin make my sex life awesome...my husband called me a porn star while on it. I could not get enough. I mean like I had to have it 2-3 time a night. Or more.

Everyone is different so it might not have the same affect on you, but that one is the best for me.

I used to be on Paxil. That stuff messed me up. Now I just drink energy drinks. They have B12 vitamins, which help my depression. That's about it. Lots of healthy foods too.
