mechanical removal is the only way.I would find out where the roots are getting in and fix the crack or reseal the joints thats the most likely beginning of the problem.

    Call Roto-rooter

    But the root will grow back.

    If its a major problem, the best way is mechanically such as Roto-Rooter.

    you will probably have to get it what i call snaked or roto rootered there is no product that i know of to dissolve a root in your line we have to get this done every 2-3 years depending on the plumber/area its probably gonna cost about $60, not a big deal though like i said it only needs it once in awhile i would watch what you put down your plumbing though (trying store products like mr plumber is ok because they are strictly for clogs although wont do you much good in this case)i definately dont recommend mixing anything with a product it could be corrisive and ruin your lines or cause a chemical reaction (you wind up in the hospital) and you'll be in a world of Poo then...believe me about the mixing thing my uncle was stupid and mixed something with drain cleaner because it wasnt working fast enough for him and wound up passing out and in the hospital for like a week because the mixture caused some kind of fumes and he got severe pneumonia and god knows what else from breathing it in

    Source(s):

    i would also watch putting chemicals in your toilet if its not draining properly because they could remain in the bowl and splash up and burn your sensitive areas (ouch)

    Yes there is it is called root away check out a Ace or other hardware store. Quicker is to have the drain cleaned out. a Rental store has the equipment if you want to save some money and don't mind the nasty.
