Surprises, pranks etc at wedding.......any ideas?

Question

My son is getting married shortly and as Father of the Groom I'm not normally involved in the speechmaking ect.
However, would like to make a contribution in some memorable way.
Thought about a surprise speech but can anyone think of any other form of surprise, say a prank or joke of some sort or open to suggestions..
Any sensible ideas would be appreciated

How about you all shake soda and beer cans and spray them at the groom. I saw it on wildest weddings it was so funny yet enjoyable looking.

When I was a bridesmaid the other bridesmaid put confetti in the air conditioning vents of the car and I got the blame. It blew confetti for almost three years later.

When the bride and groom kiss after they are announced a couple, have the brides maids and groomsmen hold up score cards. Like 9.5 or 10. I would just put them in place before the ceremony begins and have them stand on them until it is time to hold them up. Everyone will laugh, it is cute but not over the top or insulting and will not freak the bride out.

How about stabbing his fiancee to death, and when he comes in and sees the body and starts crying, jump out and shout 'SURPRISE!'

You could get a couple of balls & Chains, and present them to them as you make a speech like, "Well this is what your life is from now on ". A friend of ours did this to us on our last anniversary. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to pee my pants. And every one else got a huge kick out of it.

May I suggest that you wrap up a package of condoms,,, as a gift,, and present it to your son,, with the speach,, Son, I just want to say one thing ,, ect ect,, about when your Mom and I got married,,, ect ect,,, and be sure to use these,, so you will not have the same result that your Mom and I did.... ect ect,,, ( this is as a joke)... i bet everyone will crack up....and sonny boy will be so embarassed,,,,LOL....

# 2,,,, we did this to a good friend at his wedding,, in the reception line,,, all the men had condoms in their hand,, and when shaking hands with the Groom,, passed them off to him... It was a Hoot !!!.....

Might be cautions on pranks unless you are very close to your soon to be daughter-in-law and she has a GREAT sense of humor. At my cousins wedding one of the groomsmen bought all of them dark sunglasses which they wore at the ceremony, did not go over well.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE a good prank, but Brides can be a handful on THEIR DAY. Maybe something at the reception when everyone is starting to relax? Decorate the car?

I think anything more than this would make you seem like a twat. I would hate to be pranked on my wedding.
It is a special day, not a kids party.
KDs idea is cute, and includes a group of people that they love and care about. It won't be all about you.

How about If you and your daughter in law get together and plan that at the wedding that out of nowhere some girl comes and say that your son leaved her pregnant to he your sons reation,,, that would be funny,, but if you are going to do anything like that I would say involve your daughter in-law in the joke,,,,so that way she knows and dosent hurt her feelings,,,

LOL... that's funny. here is a website that has some funny ones. i personally like the writing on the bottom of the shoes and fake switching out the tux coats for one that is too small or too big...

The score cards from KD are def the best idea - that would make me laugh out loud, but anything more over the top than that and you're in dangerous territory. I'm getting married soon and if my hubby-to-be's father organised that i would find it hilarious, but I cant think of anything else i would be happy with. In fact, i'm not sure why you would want to pull a prank at all? If you want to be involved you could make a speech - although it's not traditional, neither is pulling a prank on the couple. More and more brides are choosing to make speeches too these days, and that isnt traditional either. Good luck!

Make an announcement that you're running a contest to name their first born (or next child if applicable) and to do so you're taped a special ticket under someone's chair in the audience. Whoever gets the ticket gets to name their first child. Everyone will look, but nobody will find the ticket. Suggest that if it's not in the audience it has to be under the chair of somebody in the wedding party. Here's the key to the joke though: make sure the ticket is taped under the bride's chair :) Make it seem like it was completely unintentional.

when i got married my brother also the best man wrote help across the soles of my husband to be shoes so when we knelt at the alter the guest were reading this we was wondering why everyone was sniggering and didn,t know untill the end also at the speach he had a load of men stand up at the same time asked for my past parteners keys it was so funny all these people throwing in there keys and when they sat down he ended with oh yes your mums asked me to get the keys of your ex to my then husban and my little old nan came over it was so funny and lightened the seriousness of the day

Try not to piss off your future daughter in law....but I've seen it where someone writes "help me" on the bottom of the groom's shoes, so when he's kneeling in the church it's visible.
OR you could make an announcement that since your son is now married, all keys to his apartment/house must now be returned, and then have all kinds of funny people come up to give him keys (ie little old ladies). That one's funny without really ruining the bride's day! (ie making a mess)

Unless your "surprise" is in the form of an appreciated gift, new car, new house, money for honeymoon, money for down payment, room of furniture, or paying off student loans, or something equally generous and loving, I STRONGLY suggest you keep it to an appropriate speech.

You are looking at a lifetime(well after you die even) of resentment and hatred from your future daughter in law if you pull some stupid prank trying to be funny. Not to mention your son, your wife and probably everyone else there.

Do you want to be known as the boob who ruined his own son's wedding, because I can promise you that will be on your tombstone no matter how long you live.

Think this through several times and if you still want to do it, have yourself committed right before the ceremony.

key and the oldest lady guest one too - during the speeches say
now the happy couple are married no-one else should try to harm their relationship - then ask all the men to stand and return the keys that belongs to the bride - all the men will stand up - then

As a newlywed, I would NOT suggest a prank or joke. They are under so much stress & want there day to be perfect, the last thing they want is to be laughed at, hurt or something like that. Remember this is there day, they are the ones to be remembered & put 1st. I think perhaps pulling them aside as a couple after the ceremony & telling them how much you love them, are proud of them, will be there for them, and are so happy for them would be so wonderful and sweet and would be a time from the wedding that they will always remember.
Perhaps get something for them that they wanted for the wedding that they thought was beyond reach or funds and surprise them with it at the wedding (ie:band, gift, trip to somewhere, etc).
Something more heartfelt will go much further than something uncalled for on there wedding day. Would you rather your son & soon to be daughter-in-law looking back on there wedding day with happiness or wondering if they should send a tape to America's funniest video's because it was a joke?

At my cousins wedding, we went to the honeymoon suite and undid all the screws on the bed before they got there, and just left the bed there looking like a perfectly normal bed (but with all the screws and everything keeping it together out).

Later everyone just heard a huge crash!!

People usually do something to the getaway car. Decorate it all crazy or fill it with confetti or air-popped popcorn while the couple is in the reception.

get a load of keys and give them out to the ladies/men and say now that he's a married man can all the ladies/men who have visited him/her over the years give back the front door key give all the keys to friends {get as many keys as you can it was done at a friends wedding years ago and they still talk about it today it was very funny they managed to get about 30 or more keys and everyone went up at the same time,hope you have a great day good luck on your son's wedding day

To be honest i wouldnt recommend pranks at weddings..... reason being they would probably backfire in some way or another and you dont want anything to upset your Son or his bride! Not to mention her parents either! As this could cause a rift between families and i`m sure thats the last thing you would want for your son. This kind of thing is ok for stag & Hen nights but not for the most speacial day of their lives.
