Zoloft vs. Lexapro. Has anyone taken these medications?

My doctor will be taking me off of Effexor because of the side effects and she said she will start me on one of these meds instead. I have anxiety, panic attacks, etc. Anyone take these meds? I don't want to gain anymore weight. Effexor made me gain 15lbs.

I too suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, as well as depression. I started on Zoloft when I was 15 and stayed on for 10 years until I turned 25. I then switched to Lexapro at that time because the Zoloft just didn't work for me anymore. Also, with Zoloft, I never had any time of sex drive and seemed to gain weight with it all those years. I was put on Lexapro and all I can say is great things about it. I don't have the weight gain issues, I have a normal sex drive and I am pretty happy mood wise. Not sure if you take other meds for anxiety/panic like I do, but I have had a very good experience taking Lexapro. I have been taking it for 2 years now. Good luck to you and stay strong. It's comforting to know there are others out there that suffer like I do. Not that that is a good thing for us to be going through this, but I don't feel so alone. Take good care and I hope things work well for you!

glad to hear your stopping the effexor nasty drug !! endep has worked for me also has a increased sense for the sugar rush but drink loads of water and eat a dry cracker if it sets in and you will be feeling great. I suffered bad anxiety and panic attacks and night mares . This med is usually taken at night and well has been around for years so all the info on it has no later hidden oh it can cause this or this problem as i am breast feeding I was cautious of what drug to use so I did loads of research on the effects and safety of the drug not only on me but the bub. It takes at least 14 days to take affect and helps definetly with the mood swings anxiety which was my worst!! and the panic attacks well once i got the anxiety attack under control the panic attacks lessoned. back to you original question have tried both those drugs and neither helped and well the zoloft dry like i couldnt hold a conversation without a bottle of water handy and well the lexapro an oldies drug i call this one as i was slow like an eighty five year and well goodbye libido

I also gained about 15 pounds with effexor and the effects of coming off the medicine was horrid to me, b4 I took effexor I took Zoloft and I have to tell you I felt amazing when I was on it, simply wonderful, I felt like I could handle anything and everything but about 3 weeks on it I broke out in a severe body rash and had to b taking off it, I wish I could have had a way to stay on it because nothing has ever made me feel so good and so strong. Luckily most people dont have that side effect so I advise you to try the zoloft it was a life changing drug for me. Good luck!

I've been on all 3. I gained pounds with all three. Decided to get off effexor last month and try natural remedies. Feeling much better now (lots more energy which will mean less weight gain!)
