This usually is a pack of meds such as a steroid that you have to gradually decrease the dose as you go , so the put it in a little "pack" for you to clearly see how many pills to take each dose and each day, steroids are commonly used to assist in the healing process.

It's a pack with a lot of little pills and the instructions on how to take them are very specific. Follow the instructions strictly. The pills are steroids and they will reduce inflammation.

All above are correct. You can write:

    Rx: Medrol Dose Pack
    Sig: Follow package directions
    NO REFILL

because the directions are right there on the package. I don't use it post extraction, though, because OTC meds like ibuprofen or naproxin (Advil or Aleve) are pretty effective for that, if you don't need narcotics. I use it for pulpal inflammation after a deep filling, for instance, where you need more potency to deal with inappropriate inflammation. It will reverse a post-op pulpitis about 60-70% of the time, in my experience.

It's a dosed out prescription of a steroid. You start at a certain level and over a number of days, gradually decrease the dose. Steroids are tricky. You're never supposed to stop them cold turkey.
