I do believe the differentiation point is the amount of Juice you would have as being a girl.

For example, low street cred female; cannot reference other males as Homeboy. Nor would they be allowed to use such other terminology as 'Son' or 'Kid', but Dawg is allowed on occasion, as long as not in the possessive form, as in 'My Dawg'.

Once said homegirl has achieved the street cred, or Hand, the tides are turned a bit and dependent upon the male's position in the pack, can at times use the word Homeboy - in given situations.

I'm not sure. Homeboy pretty much just means tight friend, so the question that has to be asked is, can boys and girls be "Just homepeople"? and thats no easiy question to answer

As that slang is used in the City of Providence, RI the answer is yes. I have heard that used in the NYC metro area and Boston as well. Depends on the region of the country perhaps- I don't know.
