Brain cancer:The Doctors are sending my brother in-law home to die.He has 12 tumors in his brain,?

we found out that he had cancer because there was a black spot on his heal,the cancer went from there into his lymp notes and after that it spread to his lungs and his brain his has 8 tumors in his lungs,he also gets back headacks and sometime he can't see,his motor skills are also going,he says that he wants to die at home so we are getting a care team together for him and our family is going to be part of it,My question is how long can he go on like this and what should we exspect from it,IE is he going to be in alot of pain more than what he is in now ,is there going to be a change in his moods? just wondering that's all.

Sorry to here about your brother in law. I can only go from my experience. We had hospice to help us care for a family member who also had terminal brain cancer. I don't think there's any easy way to tell how long he will live. Its a day by day thing. The hospice nurses will be able to tell you what is going on and how he is doing. My family member was in allot of pain and the nurses were great, they didn''t let her suffer. The problem is in order to control the pain the narcotics make them sleep and their not very with it when they are awake, but its better than the pain. I didn't see any mood changes and she went quietly in her sleep. Hope this helps...Its very hard to watch someone you love die but also brings everyone close and I think makes it easier to let the person go. God Bless...

if he wants to die at home with his family then let him. there might be some extra pain that starts, or it may be a painful death. it just depends on how his body reacts to everything. you can only hope for the best. good luck!

I can tell you it is not going to be pretty. With tumors in his lungs, his brain will become oxygen deprived. He will be delusional. Cognitive effects all depend on where the tumors are located. He will be in pain, but depending on where the brain tumors are, he might not be able to feel it. I know that sounds crazy, pain is relayed by nerves and the signal is interpreted by his brain. The signals may not be correctly interpreted, all depending on where the tumors are. I'm so sorry and may God give you strenght.

My mother-in-law is living with terminal lung cancer and I can tell you that yes, there can be a lot of pain but his doctors can give him meds for it (morphine). Whether or not the cancer itself will change his moods, I don't know, but I can tell you that if I were "sent home to die" I would probably be understandably moody. My advice is to not take anything too personally and to offer help to him and his family whenever you are able.

Usually, in situations like this, the healthcare team will provide powerful pain medication to prevent suffering from pain. He may experience mood swings but he may be low key. It is very important to help him be comfortable. His family and friends should talk to him and not at or around him.

Touch his hand, rub his arm and let him know how much he is loved. Allow him to express himself as well.

I'll pray for you and your family that you will have the strength and courage to go through this and that this will be a time of love and peace.

I've been through this before. The doctors should keep him in a little pain as possible. Yes there will be mood changes, My father died five years ago, I am still grieving for him. Expect a lot of grieving. I know this in not you want to hear and I am sorry. My prayers are with you.

Sounds like he had Melanoma.
