He obviously likes women, he's just a quirky character. Besides, so what if he was? Women weren't allowed on ships back then. Most sailors/pirates were either gay or at least had male/male sexual relationships when they were out to sea for months.

But given the way he acts with Elizabeth and the harlots, I'd say it's safe to say that he's at least bi-sexual or in very deep denial.

good point!!!
This is from an old news story, released between the first and second film.
Johnny Deep thinks his 'Pirates of the Caribbean' character Captain Jack Sparrow is gay.

The actor, who modelled the swashbuckling pirate on Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, has confessed he camped-up his role to make it more realistic.

He said: "I like the idea of Jackbeing ambiguous because women were thought to be bad luck on ships and these pirates went to sea for years at a time. There is a possibility that one thing might lead to another. You're lonely, you have an extra ration of rum, 'Cabin boy!'"

So, in answer to your question, Jack Sparrow is not gay. He simply has no problem with taking advantage of an opportune moment.
