Question

I am a divorced mother of an 9 yr.old little girl. I have written a book and I am looking for a literary agent. My manuscript has been accepted with Dorrance publishing Company, but they want too much money to publish it. That is something that I just don't have right now. I have found some cheaper publishing companies, but the prices are still too high. So I figure that if I find a good literary agent that is interested in a adult romance book about 12 chapters long. Someone please help me. I am desperate to get this done because me and my daughter is running out of money.

You shouldn’t have to pay to get your book published, if it’s good. The idea is--the publisher pays you. It’s a rip off if you’re paying them (unless we’re talking self publishing) but I would still try getting a real publisher.

Finding a good literary agent is you’re best bet. I’ve interviewed literary agents who handle romance.

Before submitting: Is your book up to par? Have you joined a writers group? If you write romance, you definitely need to join Romance Writers of America.

You join one their chapter nearest you and meet published authors. RWA also has annual conferences where you can meet editors, literary agents and those in the business.
There you can pitch your story directly.
