What do I need to convert old vinyl records to digital?

I have lots of vinyl records (cos I'm old) and feel cheated having to buy the same stuff again in digital. How can I transfer the vinyl onto the computer?

This process is really not very difficult. I have converted all of my vinyl to digital over the years.

You can connect your turntable directly to your computer with the right cables.

Y-cable - 2) female phono to 1) mini (1/8") male (Radio Shack has these)

Plug the 2 phono cables coming from your turntable into the 2 female phono cables. Plug the 1/8" mini cable into your "line in" input on your computer. Make sure you also attach your ground cable on your turntable (if you have one) to almost any grounding post (like a screw on the back of your computer)

Now, all you need is some software. Something like DART CD-Recorder ( http://www.dartpro.com/ ) Really easy to use and will automatically convert any analog signals (vinyl, cassettes, whatever) to digital files.

Use your sound card on your computer as the mixing device for optimum gain control.

No need to be intimidated by this cuz it's much easier to do than describe. Do this one time, and you'll be setup and good to go.

By the way, you can do this with any component you have. Turntables, Cassette Decks, anything.

If you have problems - contact me. I'll try to walk you through it.
